Ladder Vs Latter

Close-up of hands cutting fabric in a tailor shop, showcasing craftsmanship.

Upon walking through a different department on the way back from my break, a young couple stops me for assistance.

“Excuse me!” one of the young couple called to get my attention.

“Yes?” I replied. “What can I help with?” Having stopped me in front of the fabric table. I surmised what they needed, but waited for their reply anyways.

“Can you cut some fabric for us or get someone who can help?” the young girl said as if I was a servant not doing a job she was paying me for.

Always assuming customers aren’t intentionally trying to sound derogatory, I answered pleasantly. “I can do the latter, just give me a minute.”

“Um… we didn’t ask about a ladder. We want fabric CUT!” Looks of confusion and thoughts of my stupidity followed through their expressions.

“….. “ I reworded it. “I’ll send you someone.”
